The database

Open metadata, redistributable by design

The whole catalog is public — no hidden subset, no private tier. Provenance is tracked field by field and shown on every record, so you always know where a value came from. Live coverage is public on the stats page; the whole dataset ships as weekly downloadable dumps. No account walls, no opaque quotas.

For developers & frontends

Identify a ROM by its fingerprint

Built for scrapers and self-hosted frontends (RomM, Gaseous, Skyscraper, Batocera…): CRC / MD5 / SHA-1 lookup the no-intro way, anonymous access, transparent rate limits, batch endpoint for library scans. Need a key? Self-service, under a minute.

# No API key required
curl "https://retrobase-collection.com/api/public/v1/lookup?crc=50ABC90A"

# 100 fingerprints in one request
curl -X POST "https://retrobase-collection.com/api/public/v1/lookup/batch" \
     -d '{"lookups":[{"crc":"50ABC90A"},{"md5":"..."}]}'

The community

Improve a record in two clicks

Spot a wrong year, a missing wheel, a bad genre? Propose a fix — three matching proposals apply automatically, trusted contributors apply instantly, and every change is audited and reversible. The rules are public: contributor charter.
