In Barry McGuigan World Championship Boxing you begin by creating your own boxer, choosing his appearance, abilities and one of several fighting styles. You then enter a series of matches against increasingly difficult opponents as you attempt to climb the rankings. Inside the ring you can use punches such as jabs, hooks and cross-punches aimed at either the head or body. Between fights you train your boxer to improve his abilities and prepare for the next challenge. Depending on your starting option, you either begin your career as a new professional at the bottom of the rankings or as a contender already halfway up the ladder.
