Frankenstein opens with the desperate reflection of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, who believed he had uncovered the secret of life. For two years, he sank into obsessive research, re-animating dead animal tissue, taking endless notes, refining his apparatus, and losing sight of everything else. Emaciated, abandoned, and wild with ambition, he aimed to be nothing less than equal to God – a creator, a giver of life.
