Garrison is a top-down action game that follows a gameplay style similar to Gauntlet. Up to five characters fight their way through over 100 dungeon levels, defeating hordes of enemies and collecting potions, gold, scrolls, keys, and magical items. Each player character has different strengths and weaknesses, making the game most enjoyable in multiplayer mode, as certain levels benefit from specific abilities such as speed or magic. The enemies possess a wide variety of attacks: some shoot projectiles, others engage in close combat, some drain the player's health upon contact, and others use magic.
