„The Great Escape“ places the player in the role of a prisoner of war in a German camp in 1942. The goal is to escape unnoticed by exploiting gaps in the strict daily routine. Attendance at roll calls, meals, and exercises is mandatory – absence triggers an alarm. The character moves automatically to these events, giving the player time slots for exploration. Restricted areas are off-limits, and entering them results in solitary confinement. Essential items like keys, uniforms, or flashlights must be hidden to avoid losing everything during inspections. Guards patrol fixed routes, and their line of sight must be cleverly avoided. If the player is caught too often, morale decreases, and when it reaches zero, the will to escape is broken.
