In On the Tiles, a stray cat prowls the dark backstreets of the city to prove it's the toughest in the neighborhood. To do so, it collects fish bones to access new territories. The journey is perilous, with hawks, hedgehogs, frogs, and rival cats posing threats, all of which must be jumped over or spat at. Contact drains energy, which can be replenished by eating sparrows and mice. Fleas infest its fur, and having more than ten will cost a life. People throw objects, and a guard dog is ready to devour any cat that gets too close – the road to feline dominance is full of danger.
