"Sgt. Slaughter's Mat Wars" challenges the player to prove themselves in the ring, using powerful moves like punches, body slams, and flying pins against opponents. Wrestlers can be thrown over the ropes and continue fighting outside the ring. Victories earn combat pay and allow progression through the ranks toward the championship. Outside of the matches, the player can also take on the role of a manager—bidding on a wrestler in Sgt. Slaughter's auction house, training them, and guiding them to the top. The game features five different wrestling tycoons and four arenas.
