Shogun follows the story of the English navigator John Blackthorne, whose ship is wrecked off the coast of Japan around the year 1600. In a world completely foreign to him, he must learn how to survive, adapt to unfamiliar customs and language, and find his place in a society that initially rejects him. Along the way, he becomes entangled in the power struggles of rival warlords and falls in love with a Japanese woman. In the end, he embraces Japanese life and is honored as a samurai.
