„Soldier of Fortune“ tells the story of Krillys, who has stolen the Zodiac Power Source and shattered it into six pieces – now Sarnak is sent to retrieve it and hopefully rescue his friends Teron, Gorman and Tartarus. His journey begins in the Ebbedown Forest and features gameplay reminiscent of “Ghosts 'n Goblins”. The path mostly goes from left to right, though frequent downward movements through gaps and upward moves via rotating platforms are also present. Some falls are deadly, but mostly only those without reachable platforms – they are avoidable and not entirely random. Numerous magical teleports appear along the way, and the tall trees narrow the path. Extra lives (by collecting eight crystals) and improved weaponry can be found throughout the quest.
