In Zork I: The Great Underground Empire, you begin as an unnamed adventurer standing before a white house – alone, with little direction. Inside, you find intriguing objects: a brass lantern, a trophy case, a finely engraved sword. A trap door beneath the rug leads to the vast and perilous Great Underground Empire. There, you face deadly foes – trolls, cyclopes, thieves, and the infamous grues – and solve intricate puzzles across winding mazes and ancient ruins. Your ultimate goal: recover the Twenty Treasures of Zork and return them to the trophy case in the house.
