Megalopolis SOS is a fixed-screen shoot 'em up. Pilot a ship to protect the earth's major capitals from attacking aliens. The player's craft can shoot missiles upwards (only one at a time) but also send out floater mines that are aimed with a reticle. The alien mothership at the top of the screen sends out waves of flying saucers. These saucers shoot downwards but if destroyed are split into a number of smaller kamikaze crafts. If enemy fire or crafts hit the cities they are damaged, and eventually destroyed. If all the capitals are destroyed or the player runs out of lives the game is over. The round is completed when the entire wave of enemy ships is defeated.
