Archon is a turn-based strategy video game. It is based on the principle of chess, with the addition of combat phases. Each piece is placed on the chessboard according to its range of movement and forms an army representing light or shadow. When one unit attempts to take another, both are transported to a combat arena to determine the winner. A unit can remain wounded even after winning its duel, which reduces its chances of victory in a future battle. The game is won when all opposing units are destroyed or when a player has five power points.
