Japon, 12ème siècle. Après l'assassinat de votre père, vous vous lancez dans une quête pour devenir Shogun et restaurer l'honneur de votre famille. Vous devrez vaincre tous vos ennemis - y compris votre frère. La plupart du temps, vous déplacerez vos troupes sur la grande carte du Japon. Dès qu'un événement se produit, vous devrez combattre vos ennemis dans des séquences d'action, comme l'attaque d'une forteresse ressemblant à un gantelet ou la défense contre un assassin ninja. Si deux troupes entrent en collision, une bataille peut s'ensuivre, dans laquelle vous devrez utiliser tout votre esprit stratégique pour guider vos hommes vers la victoire.
