In The Producer: The World of Film, the player is a film producer. The goal is to earn one billion Deutsche Marks within 20 years by producing successful films. First, a script is needed, which can be acquired as a commissioned work or in several scripts. After that, actors and a director with various character traits are hired. Budget constraints and personal antipathies must be taken into account, as a vain actor may not want to work with an inexperienced director. The player rents a studio and sets the film's budget in several categories. During filming, random events such as fires can occur. After filming, expensive marketing takes place. In the main menu, which is designed like an office picture, the player selects actions by clicking on office elements or the toolbar.
