A game of tile-matching unfolds, employing the full traditional set of 144 Chinese mahjong pieces. The tiles lie scattered in random array, each one a miniature enigma. Only the so-called “free” tiles may be paired—those unshackled on both left and right, and unburdened by any tile resting above them. The challenge is both simple and profound: a dance of chance and strategy, where every choice echoes through the arrangement, and each liberated tile is a small victory in an intricate, ever-shifting mosaic.
