Goldfields is an educational, text-based economic simulation where players seek wealth during a gold rush. Arriving at Suze Port, you have one year to build your fortune by earning money, mining gold, gaining experience, and managing your health and reputation. Through menu-driven choices, you can work jobs in Suze Port or Fields Town, invest in local businesses, or travel to the mining camps to prospect for gold. Players may purchase mining equipment for alluvial mining or invest in shaft mines, expanding operations to increase profits. Business partnerships provide monthly income, while mined gold can be sold for cash, often at higher prices farther from the fields. Along the way, you can acquire new skills, protect yourself from robbers, and recover from illness at the hospital. At the end of the year, your success is measured by the wealth and experience you've accumulated, with the option to continue for another year.
