Hera is a fantasy RPG set in the land of Hera, once governed by the Palisades, a council of ten wise men. After the corrupt Zarabae betrayed and destroyed the council, the warrior Rhin forged a magical sword to stop him, but fell in battle before it could be used. The player must explore the overworld, cities, and dungeons to recover and reconstruct the lost Sword of Rhin. Gameplay is viewed from a top-down, turn-based perspective with keyboard-controlled movement and commands. Monsters roam the overworld and initiate turn-based combat when they catch the player. Exploration expands over time with access to boats and eventually a submarine. A unique temperature system forces players to manage heat and cold while traveling through deserts, tropics, and arctic regions, as overheating or freezing results in death. The ultimate goal is to defeat Zarabae in his skull-shaped castle.
