The Other Side is a one- or two-player strategy game focused on diplomacy, resource management, and conflict. Two nations occupy opposite sides of a massive chasm, and the objective is to build a bridge across it. In cooperative games, both players win when the bridge is completed; in competitive games, the player who places the final section wins. Each new bridge segment becomes increasingly expensive. Players generate income by refining fuel from three resources, one of which can only be found in the opposing nation's territory, encouraging trade or military expansion. Money can be spent on drillers, patrols, and bombs to acquire resources or damage enemy operations. An automated Computer Automated Defense (C.A.D.) system may launch retaliatory attacks, making it difficult to determine whether aggression came from the opposing player or the computer. The game supports solo play, local two-player games, and play between two connected computers.
