The Struggle for Guadalcanal is a two-player World War II strategy game covering the campaign for Guadalcanal, beginning on August 7, 1942. Players command either the Japanese or American forces, managing fleets, submarines, aircraft, and ground troops. Games can be played locally or via modem. Each turn, players reorganize task forces, assign objectives, and manage vital supplies such as troops, fuel, and ammunition. Naval task forces are then moved across a map of the Solomon Islands, with movement limited by available action points. Players may launch ground offensives on Guadalcanal, conduct bombing raids, deploy reconnaissance aircraft, and send submarines on patrol. After all orders are issued, the turn is resolved and players receive detailed reports on combat results, reconnaissance findings, and the outcome of their operations.
