The Battle of the Atlantic: The Oceanic Lifeline is a strategic naval simulation of World War II. Designed for 1 to 2 players (human or CPU), each player controls the main naval and air forces of the Axis or Allies. The player takes the perspective of the theater naval commander, who forms task forces, defines their missions and destinations and reacts to operational events. The game is exclusively text-based and includes a board and physical pieces allowing the player to track the position of their units and those of the enemy. All games begin in February 1940 and the player sets the duration. Time passes in 2-week intervals, allowing the player to enter new orders for their fleet, but pauses to react to enemy movements. The available ports change over time based on historical conditions. The player specifies the patrol locations of their ships, which automatically follow this route during this time interval, with a risk of encountering enemy ships.
