DakAr is a game for 2 players. Everyone controls their car with a joystick. The aim is to be the first to reach the finish line. The cars are controlled with the joysticks. You can see the gear set and the number of laps left to drive on the panel. You change gears by holding down the fire button and moving the joystick lever in the desired direction. There is a Compass Rose in the bar, which shows the gear position on the joystick (difficult to describe, trying it out is better). If the car touches the edge of a section of the track, it slows down and you have to switch back to a faster gear. Occasionally, a field of 4 horseshoe magnets appears on a random section of the track. If a car comes close to it, it is attracted and the magnets disappear. This gives you a small, but sometimes significant, advantage over your opponent. If no car drives over the magnets, they disappear after a few seconds. If you drive very fast, the magnets can also cause you to go off the track.
