Punk puts the player in the role of a young person navigating the counter-culture lifestyle. The game is essentially a social and lifestyle simulator. Your primary objective is to survive and rise within the punk subculture. Like many Motelsoft titles (such as Arcan or Magic Tower), it relies heavily on menu-driven navigation, stat management and resource allocation rather than fast-paced action. You must balance various survival stats, including health, hunger and money. A core mechanic involves increasing your reputation or punk status within the community. Players engage in typical daily activities of the era's subculture which might include finding places to stay (squatting), obtaining food and interacting with other characters.
