The basic technique of the game is to solve a puzzle of colored squares. Each puzzle consists of several large squares, each with 4 smaller sub-squares. A large square can be rotated so that the 4 smaller sub-squares move, or swapped positions with another square. The goal is to arrange the squares so that all of its sub-squares match the color of their adjacent sub-squares. A sub-square can be red, green, yellow, blue or gray: The colors must match on adjacent edges but gray can be associated with any color.
