In Akalabeth: World of Doom you venture into the legendary land of Akalabeth, once peaceful until the dark sorcerer Mondain unleashed his monsters upon it. Though the noble Lord British banished him, the creatures still roam the dungeons below. As either a fighter or a mage, your mission is to explore, descend into the depths, and destroy the evil that remains. The overworld map lets you visit towns to buy weapons, armor, and supplies, and the castle of Lord British, who assigns quests. Each quest demands that you slay a specific monster lurking deeper within the dungeons. Inside, the view shifts to first-person, where you battle, explore, and seek treasure. Considered the ancestor of the RPG genre, Akalabeth is a journey of courage, cunning, and the eternal struggle against the darkness of Mondain.
