Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future takes the player to the year 2147, a post-apocalyptic world where the evil Lord Dread rules Earth with an iron fist. A small group of high-tech soldiers led by Captain Power fights against him and his Bio-Dread minions. However, the game's story plays little role in the gameplay. Instead, it begins with two space-shooter sequences. The first part, the training mission, involves destroying three Dread drones on a shooting range from a cockpit view. The second part, "Attack on Volcania," is a 2D side-scroller where the player eliminates approaching enemy spaceships. Once enough enemies are destroyed, the enemy base can be bombed. These shooting and bombing sequences repeat until the fortress's shields are finally taken down.
