First Moves is an introduction to chess for children aged eight and older. Success in chess depends on understanding and appreciating the movements of the individual pieces and how they work together. First Moves introduces beginners to these basic movements and strategies in a simple and direct manner. The program is divided into six main sections – each containing three games focused on a specific piece or group of pieces, starting with the king and rook and progressing to the pawns. The final section covers the handling of pieces in combination – with the goal of the game, capturing the opponent's king, always at the forefront. The package includes a full-color wall poster that reinforces the lessons and provides additional information.
