Gyropod is a varied C64 shooter that blends space combat with landing and exploration missions. You pilot the Galaxy Ranger, equipped with a rotating defensive rim and a cannon. The rim both shields and attacks, but as it takes damage, holes appear, leaving you exposed. Ammunition is limited, so each planet must be plundered before destruction. This triggers a Lunar Lander-style sequence where the supply pod must land gently on the surface. Once landed, you control a spaceman tasked with collecting boxes while hostile aliens pursue you. The game features customizable options like music, three difficulty levels, and 1–8 lives. A hot-seat two-player mode lets players alternate turns until all lives are lost.
