Hell Rider pits opponents against each other in a duel based on the Tron formula. Both move across a grid while leaving behind a permanent trail that neither they nor their opponent may touch. With every move, the available space becomes smaller, making careful steering and trapping the opponent increasingly important. Whoever hits a trail or the edge loses the round.
