Panic at Shilmore Castle! tells the story of Sir Humphrey, a ghost who lives in a castle with his friends Olli and Lisa. When the castle is bought by Eugine Portcullis III Jnr., who plans to tear it down and ship it to the USA, Sir Humphrey decides to drive Eugine away. However, the ghost has lost his ability to become invisible and can only regain it if Olli finds special ingredients. In this game, the player controls Olli, who must search for each ingredient and bring it back to Sir Humphrey within a time limit. Each screen is filled with spooky figures, snakes, bats, and dangerous pits. Olli cannot truly die, but if he touches an enemy, he is sent back to the start of the screen, wasting valuable time. Once he has collected all eight ingredients, Eugine Portcullis III Jnr. is finally driven away.
