In Zalaga you control your spaceship at the bottom of the screen and face swarms of aliens attacking in formations. They either fire at you or attempt to crash into your ship. Once all enemies are destroyed, you advance to the next level, with bonus challenge stages appearing regularly for extra points. Some alien ships use tractor beams to capture your ship – if you shoot them down, you can recover it and fight with double firepower. The game features both single-player and two-player modes, along with options to adjust settings such as auto-fire and reload speed.
