Doom (1st FPS released in 1993) takes place in a fictional universe mixing elements of science fiction and horror. The player embodies a Space Marine (nicknamed the Doomguy) who has been transferred to the planet Mars after assaulting a senior officer who ordered him to slaughter defenseless civilians. He is then forced to work for the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC), an interplanetary military-industrial complex dealing with radioactive waste, but which the military also uses to conduct secret experiments on the teleportation between Mars and its two moons, Phobos and Deimos.
