CrEastar is a role-playing game set on another planet. Players take on the role of Alex, a mecha-suited warrior who witnesses his hometown being destroyed by space invaders. The game plays like a typical turn-based RPG with a few exceptions such as the ability to target multiple enemies in a single attack and healing by taking action. Alex also regains some HP after each battle. Alex can increase his maximum HP by leveling up after gathering enough experience or by finding hidden power-ups in various areas, and can jump across gaps in caves. Enemies are not visible on the map, and the random encounter rate is set quite high. Battles are shown in an over-the-shoulder perspective similar to Phantasy Star II. Enemies can be at different distances from the protagonist, the further away they are from him, the more likely the player is to run away from a battle or attack first.
